#Fridayreads

Min fredagsbog er Tom Michells The Penguin Lessons

My book this friday is Tom Michell's The Penguin Lessons.

It is a silly story of the friendship between the author Tom and the penguin Juan Salvador. After Tom rescues Juan from an oil slick, the penguin won't leave his side, which obviously makes for a lot of difficult and silly situations.
I love penguins with all my heart, and I find them to be some of the most amazing creatures. If I see something with a penguin on it, it usually ends up with me, and this novel wasn't an exception. It is definitely not a masterwork, but on a long and grey day like this friday it is pretty perfect.

  1. Hi Ida,
It is a really fabulous idea making friendship with a penguin and giving him the name Juan Salvador. Reading your post, I was remembered on environment pollution to Alan Weismann’s book “The World without us.” This thought awakened my interest. I questioned myself, should I read in English or in German translation. What would you say? Surely you say: “Read it in English.” It came back in mind what you wrote to “Do no Harm” by Henry Marsh: “I think Marsh language is very warm and even witty… in that special way only Englishman can be…”. Therefore “The Penguin Lessons” were ordered in English. My English library grows forth.
    Best regards
    Wolfgang
